Question:
Is it possible to travel around by public transportaion easily? I have heard that buses do not leave very reguarly to some places. I have thought about hitch hicking. Is it a quit common thing to do and reliable?
Dont want to be stock some where for weeks waiting for a ride. Is this somthing i would have to worry about? Thank you very much. Answer:
There is limited infrastructure. Most transport is via minivans that leave when full not necessarily on a schedule.Try searching as there are a couple of threads about hitchhiking in Mongolia. It is possible but you need lots of patience and you need to expect to contribute for the petrol.
Usually in small towns there are cars leaving from the market to different directions once they get full (and full means really full). Sometimes it means waiting for tomorrow. From UB and other big towns there are buses leaving regularly between them. For these buses you can buy a ticket in advance. About hitch-hiking, is usually not for free and sometimes more expensive than local transportation.
